Ron goes back to his diatribe on ancient history that no one gives a shit about, and I tune out. Dave is scrolling around on his phone, pretending heâs doing work emails, but Iâd bet heâs busy setting up his evening shag.
I noticed the brass nameplate on the door of the bar as I came in this time. Lodestone Bar, just like in my dream. Thereâs no doubt now. My subconscious noted this place, and for some reason kept it recorded for future dream locations. I mean, itâs a nice enough bar for a business hotel, but thereâs nothing special about it. I donât know why this place would stick in my head.
I was curious about the name, so I did some online searching for the word âLodestoneâ. Itâs a naturally magnetic rock, also known as Magnetite. An odd thing to call a bar. Maybe thatâs why it stuck in my head?
I found an article that said the ancients used lodestone as a sort of compass, and that the earliest reference is from 600BC when a Greek philosopher named Thales of Miletus noted that iron was attracted to this stone. He therefore assumed that the stone had a soul. Bit of a stretch, but fair enough, I suppose.
Itâs always a Greek philosopher, isnât it? Never a Greek barmaid or Greek kebab maker. What are these philosophers doing roaming around picking up rocks for, anyway? Maybe there wasnât much call for philosophy that week, and he was branching out⦠Regardless, dreams are weird. I donât care what anyone says; I donât think they will ever make any sense or can be explained. Itâs just a random dump of memories made into a crazy story. The Lodestone Bar could as well have been the Guildford Wetherspoons for all my brain knew.
Still, Iâm on the lookout for any female staff, especially if their name badge says âChloeâ on it. Even if she is just a distorted memory, Chloe is a rather sexy one, and Iâd love to meet whoever sparked these dreams in real life. Dunno what Iâd say, if I bumped into her⦠âOh, hi. Are you Chloe? Iâve been having erotic dreams about you, fancy a drink?â Thatâs the sort of opener that would get me arrested rather than laid.
Receptionists and bar staff so far do not match my memories. Iâll keep looking.
